A food fight in the cafeteria of their peaceful little school. One of the new students and her family had been involved but judging from the lack of food on the one named Alexandra, Raine figured out that it was Alex who had done all the throwing and her poor siblings hadn't retaliated at all and yet, they'd been blamed. Oh well. She was only a history teacher, not the principal of the school, so she couldn't call the shots. She could however give Alex detention and so when the discussion about who should take which student for the punishment came up, Raine spoke up to take over the detention for Alex.
Her final class was upon them and Alex just so happened to be in it, which was good because that meant she couldn't slip away. Raine was writing on the white board with a marker, "Okay everyone, for your homework tonight I expect you all to write a five thousand word short story about yourselves being in an time period before then 1800's. You can pick any time period before than that you like. It'll be due in two weeks. Get creative. Do research. I'm looking at YOU Wesley. I don't want anyone talking about shooting guns in caveman days. As much fun as that would seem. Anyway, make sure your stories are creative and historically accurate." the bell rang. "Class dismissed. All except for you Alexandra Cullen." she said and stood up, "Follow me to the library. We're doing something good for our school. I have you for two hours. I intend on doing something besides letting you sit and daydream. Oh. Yes." She held out her hand, "Give me your cell phone please. You'll get it back at the end of detention. I promise." she smiled at her.
Raine knew all about responsibility, being the guardian of a fifteen year old brother would do that for you. She would try and talk a little sense into Alex if she could, without coming down as too harsh or motherly. He little brother passed by and she gave him a playful smack upside the head. "Hey lil' bro, I'll be in a little later tonight. What are you making for dinner?"
Genis rubbed the back his head and smiled, he had a sweet little grin and said, "Nothing for you if you keep that up. But seriously, I put a pot roast in the crockpot this morning and put barbecue sauce on it. I'll be perfect by now. And I'm making baked beans, mashed potatoes and a salad. Lloyd's coming over too while his folks are outta town." then he waved to Alex and smiled, then turned and walked away.
Raine laughed, "Sounds good. See you at home Genis!" she called and then, started walking again, "Sorry about that Alexandra, but he's my brother. Can't not say hello to him if I see him in the hall." and she kept going toward the library.
