Today had started off nicely enough, Ricky had woken up early to a brand new scarf on his bed. He loved scarves. He enjoyed collecting them and he wore them no matter what the weather was like. He had sheer scarves for when it was warm out and thick ones for snow. He'd eaten his breakfast, said goodbye to his cat and his parents and driven himself to school in his ancient car. He'd even had a nice lunch, complete with chocolate milk. (he ALWAYS had chocolate milk with every meal) It was right after lunch that things went to hell in a hand basket. Some men had jumped him in the parking lot when he'd gone to his car to get some sheet music.
He'd had a cloth bag thrown over his head and he was bundled up and thrown into the back of a truck and driven away. Luckily for him, his cat had unwittingly stowed away in his bag and was now hiding under his shirt. Ricky urged her to be silent and still, for he was afraid these boys would hurt her. She obeyed and when Ricky was taken out of the truck and made to walk, she went with them, managing to go undetected by them. The boy's mind reeled as he wondered frantically what was happening and why the people were doing this to him.
What he did not know, was that they were vampires, determined to test the human for any power at all to add to their little group. They thought that if maybe they could frighten him, he'd show signs of having some sort of extra ability. So, off they marched him, not saying a word. He was forced into the woods and up a hill. Ricky struggled but he was pushed forward and almost fell. Fur Elise dug her claws into his shirt where she was clinging, frightened and angry, but the boy smelled so strongly of human and cat to them anyway, and his heart was pounding so hard, her little one was masked by it.
The vampires shoved Ricky into a tree and started tying him up. Thinking quickly, the boy had Fur Elise drop down and run away. She did drop out of his shirt and run into the bushes, wrapping her tail around her legs and trembling, but she didn't run. Ricky was bound tightly to the tree with thick ropes, it was cold.
The vampires whispered to one another that perhaps, if they left him here all night, he might burn his way free of the ropes, or perhaps cause an earthquake or something like that to free himself. They weren't the smartest gaggle. Off they ran, diving off the cliff to safety and swimming to freedom.
Ricky managed to convince Fur Elise to take the bag off his head by hanging from it with her claws and dragging it off as gravity took over. Once he could see and breathe better, he looked all around. Then, he began to whistle. Maybe someone would hear him. Fur Elise ran to find someone, anyone to help. She no longer trusted the people who smelled too sweet. She followed her little nose to another scent and saw a human. "Stink like woof woof! Stinky woof woof boy! You come with Fur E! Help Ricky! Follow Fur E!" The cat meowed and made sure she had his attention before running off toward Ricky again. Only Ricky would've actually understood her thoughts, to anyone else she was just a noisy, meowing cat. He wouldn't have heard her anyway, she was much too far away. If he had, he'd have laughed at the thing she called the would-be helper.
